Jaipur, Rajasthan: A 63-year-old priest at a Shiv temple in Jaipur's Kardhani area was allegedly assaulted by neighbours following a dispute over bhajans being played at high volume during puja. The incident, which took place on Friday, September 25, was captured on the temple's CCTV camera, and the footage has since circulated widely on social media.
What Happened
According to reports, the incident took place at around 7:45 pm at a Shiv temple on Ganesh Nagar Main, off Niwaru Road. Some people living nearby objected to bhajans being played loudly during the evening rituals, and an argument broke out that soon turned physical. The priest, Pandit Ramkrishna, was allegedly punched and kicked, and his clothes were torn. The CCTV footage shows others present at the temple trying to intervene.
Police Action
The priest filed a complaint at Kardhani police station, and a case has been registered. The other side has also filed a cross-FIR. Kardhani station house officer Sawai Singh said police examined the temple's CCTV footage and took a father and son into custody. The two have been arrested on a breach-of-peace charge, and police say the full matter, including the footage, is under investigation.
