Kolkata, West Bengal: The Adani Group has announced an investment of over ₹4,000 crore in the Adani Arogya Mandir, a 2,000-bed not-for-profit hospital and medical college in New Town, Kolkata. It marks the group's entry into the healthcare sector. West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari laid the foundation stone for the project on Thursday, September 24.
What Adani Said
"We will invest over ₹4,000 crore in this hospital, college and research facility. And this institution is expected to generate over 10,000 jobs across the healthcare ecosystem of the state," Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani said at the ceremony. He described the Adani Arogya Mandir as "a world-class, not-for-profit medical institution that will have 2,000 beds, with a thousand beds catering to economically weaker sections of society, eligible under State and Central health insurance schemes."
About the Project
The campus, spread across 51.75 acres at the Bengal Silicon Valley Tech Hub, will include a multi-speciality hospital, a medical college, and research and step-down care facilities, along with accommodation for patients' relatives. It is expected to treat more than 2 lakh inpatients and 20 lakh outpatients a year. The project will be executed by the Adani Foundation, and its first phase will focus on cancer care.
Larger Bengal Commitment
Adani also said the group plans to invest over ₹1 lakh crore in West Bengal across several sectors by 2035, describing the hospital as the start of a wider commitment to the state.
