Ayush Kumar, a 4th-semester MBA student from Samastipur, Bihar, decided to sell his kidney to pay college fees and support his family after his father’s suicide and loan rejections.
The student was lured via a Telegram group. The racket’s kingpin, a Class VIII dropout, convinced him using examples of celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan living with one kidney.
The deal was initially ₹9 lakh, later reduced to ₹6 lakh, but after surgery he received only ₹3.5 lakh, leading him to approach police for the remaining amount.
Kanpur police exposed a pan-India organ racket linked to hospitals in Lucknow, Noida, and Delhi; 6 arrested, including doctors and an IMA official, and 3 hospitals sealed.
