Faridabad, Haryana: The Municipal Corporation of Faridabad (MCF) on Tuesday, September 22, demolished a religious structure in Ganpati Colony in the Palla-Basellpur area, which the civic body says was built illegally. The action drew protests from local residents and a tussle between women protesters and women police personnel before the structure was brought down under heavy police deployment.
What Happened
According to Amar Ujala, locals began protesting as soon as the MCF team arrived with machinery. Residents surrounded the JCB machine, and women police personnel moved in as women from the colony stood in front of the demolition team. The situation stayed tense for some time before the corporation's team, backed by a large police presence, completed the demolition.
Videos circulating on social media describe the structure as a mosque. The Commons Voice has not independently confirmed this, and news reports so far refer to it only as a religious structure.

MCF carried out the demolition on Tuesday in Ganpati Colony, Palla-Basellpur, amid local protest and heavy police deployment. On the same day, the corporation also began demolishing illegal construction on four floors of a building in NIT-5's Fruit Garden area, where that work continued on Wednesday.
MCF's legal advisor, advocate Satish Acharya, said the campaign against illegal construction in the city will continue and that structures built in violation of rules will be demolished. The specific violation cited for the Ganpati Colony structure has not been reported.

Faridabad has seen several large demolition drives this year. In May, a mosque and two temples in NIT-3's Masjid Chowk area were razed to clear land for the Gurugram-Faridabad-Noida Namo Bharat RRTS corridor and an elevated road, prompting weeks of protest by affected residents.
