Gas supply disruption in the capital has created serious problems for thousands of hotels, restaurants, dhabas, and street vendors that rely on commercial LPG cylinders, putting the livelihoods of many workers at risk. At present, gas supply to commercial establishments has been halted, except for educational and healthcare institutions. Businesses must apply for cylinder allotment by emailing the Ministry of Petroleum, where a committee will decide allocation based on urgency and priority. Meanwhile, hospitals and educational institutions, considered essential services, must apply through the district supply office, which will verify their past consumption records before approving supply. Several institutions, including Graphic Era, Max Hospital, and Welham Girls College, have already submitted applications. To curb misuse and black marketing, enforcement teams led by District Supply Officer KK Agarwal conducted raids in areas such as Mianwala, Balawala, Ranjhawala, and Raipur, inspecting 65 establishments and seizing 37 domestic cylinders that were being used illegally for commercial purposes.
