Punjab-based Minerva Academy FC stunned Liverpool FC 6-0 in the Round of 16 at the 2026 Mediterranean International Cup (MIC) in Costa Brava, marking one of the biggest upsets in youth football.
Captain Wahengbam Raj Singh scored a hat-trick, with Mohammad Azam Khan adding two goals and Lisham Amarson Singh scoring one, overwhelming the English side.
The win is being called a "grassroots revolution" under founder Ranjit Bajaj, achieved without financial or logistical support from the AIFF.
The same squad, earlier felicitated by Lionel Messi in 2025, has also won major European youth tournaments like the Gothia Cup, Norway Cup, and Dana Cup.
