Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh: Rashtra Prerna Sthal, the national memorial to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in Lucknow, was left severely waterlogged after continuous heavy rainfall in the city on Sunday, September 27. Photos and drone footage of the flooded complex have since circulated widely online.
About the Complex
The memorial was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 25, 2025, on Vajpayee's 101st birth anniversary. Built at an approximate cost of ₹230 crore, it is spread across 65 acres on the banks of the Gomti River in the Basant Kunj area. The complex features 65-foot-high bronze statues of Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Deendayal Upadhyaya and Vajpayee, and a lotus-shaped museum covering around 98,000 square feet.
Waterlogging After Rain
Photos taken by news agency IANS on Sunday showed large parts of the complex under water following the downpour. The Lucknow Development Authority, which manages the site, has not yet publicly commented on the waterlogging or on drainage arrangements at the memorial.
