U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) will begin a maritime blockade of all Iranian ports on Monday, April 13, at 10 a.m. ET (1400 GMT), following failed peace talks in Pakistan.
The blockade targets vessels entering or leaving Iranian coastal areas in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman, while allowing free navigation to non-Iranian ports like those in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
China is expected to be the most affected, as it is the largest buyer of Iranian crude and heavily involved in the “shadow trade” the U.S. aims to disrupt.
President Trump says the move is needed to curb Iran’s nuclear ambitions and “world extortion,” while Iran warns the U.S. cannot enforce control and threatens severe retaliation.
