Badrinath Dham, along with the surrounding Neelkanth and Narayan Parvat peaks, has been engulfed in a thick white blanket of snow, since Sunday night.
While North India prepares for summer, this sudden surge in snowfall has triggered a sharp drop in temperatures, bringing severe cold conditions back to the higher reaches of Uttarakhand.
The heavy snowfall is not limited to Badrinath; other holy sites like Kedarnath have recently recorded 3–4 feet of snow with temperatures plummeting as low as -16°C.
Snowfall and rain have led to the closure of key road links in the region, including the Mughal Road and Zojila Pass, with rescue operations underway to assist stranded tourists and locals.
Despite the harsh winter conditions, preparations continue for the pilgrimage season; the portals of Kedarnath Dham are officially scheduled to reopen on April 22, 2026.
