Patna: Bihar Assembly Election results are unfolding with a decisive tilt toward the Nitish Kumar–BJP-led NDA, which has surged far ahead in the early rounds of counting. By midday, the alliance secured leads in nearly three-fourths of the total seats, signalling a dominant performance across the state.
According to the latest figures released by the Election Commission, the NDA is ahead in 190 constituencies, maintaining a strong advantage since counting began at 8 AM. Despite expectations of a closer contest, early trends indicate a largely one-sided battle.
By noon, the breakdown of leads stood as follows:
BJP: Leading in 84 seats
JD(U): Ahead in 74 seats
LJP-RV (Chirag Paswan): Leading in 22 seats
HAM (Jitan Ram Manjhi): Ahead in 5 seats
Meanwhile, the Mahagathbandhan managed leads in only 50 seats:
RJD: Ahead in 35 seats
CPI(ML): Leading in 7 seats
Congress: Ahead in 5 seats
CPM: Leading in 2 seats
These numbers reflect a significant setback for the opposition alliance, which was hoping to mount a strong challenge.
A major point of focus is Tejashwi Yadav’s contest in Raghopur, where the RJD leader is facing an unexpectedly close fight.
His BJP rival Santosh Kumar has narrowed the margin to just 200 votes, making this constituency one of the most closely watched battles.
Tejashwi’s bid to become India’s youngest Chief Minister also appears to be slipping away. The current record holder is Pema Khandu (Arunachal Pradesh), who assumed office at 37; Tejashwi is 36.
Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, which was expected to make notable inroads in select pockets, has not registered any significant leads so far. Its electoral footprint remains minimal based on current trends.
If the emerging trends hold, Bihar may witness a historic political moment.
With the NDA showing a sweeping lead across the state, Nitish Kumar appears poised to potentially take oath as Chief Minister for the tenth time, reaffirming his long-standing influence on Bihar’s political landscape.
Although counting is still underway, early indicators suggest a decisive NDA victory. Final results will determine the exact margin, but the ruling alliance’s performance so far leaves little room for doubt about the direction in which Bihar’s mandate is moving.
