18-year-old Kshitij Chaudhary was killed in a hit-and-run accident on February 16, 2024, near a convenience store in the Premnagar area of Dehradun when an unidentified dumper crushed him.
After the victim’s death, the investigating officer reportedly told the mother, Lalita Chaudhary, that he had no "magic wand" to find an unidentified vehicle, eventually filing a Final Report (FR) to close the case due to lack of evidence.
Refusing to accept the closure, Lalita, a beautician by profession, spent nearly two years scouring CCTV footage, visiting RTO offices, and identifying suspicious vehicle numbers on her own.
Through her relentless investigation, she successfully identified the offending truck (UK07CB6929) and its owner, Ankit Chauhan, providing the specific evidence the police claimed was impossible to find.
Following her presentation of evidence to the Dehradun SSP, the police have now set aside the closure report and ordered a fresh, high-level investigation to bring the accused to justice.
