Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami officially flagged off the flight service from Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun to Naini Saini Airport in Pithoragarh.
The new air link reduces travel time between the state capital and the border district from an 11-hour road journey to a 60-minute flight.
The service is operated by FlyBig using a 19-seater aircraft, initially running three days a week (Monday, Tuesday, and Friday), with plans to increase frequency based on demand.
Officials say the connectivity will boost tourism in the Kumaon region and enable faster emergency medical transport for residents in remote hill areas.
The activation of Naini Saini Airport is seen as a strategic move to strengthen border infrastructure and improve access to the "Manaskhand" pilgrimage circuit.
