New Delhi: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of 12 additional judges as permanent judges of four High Courts: Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Uttarakhand and Gauhati. The decision was taken at a Collegium meeting on Wednesday, September 23, and announced in separate statements on Thursday.
According to PTI, the Collegium comprised Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and Justices Vikram Nath and B.V. Nagarathna.

Andhra Pradesh High Court (5): Justice Maheswara Rao Kuncheam (Kuncham), Justice Thoota Chandra Dhana Sekar (T.C.D. Sekhar), Justice Challa Gunaranjan, Justice Avadhanam Hari Haranadha Sarma and Dr. Justice Yadavalli Lakshmana Rao.
Kerala High Court (5): Justice P. Krishna Kumar, Justice K.V. Jayakumar, Justice Muralee Krishna S., Justice Jobin Sebastian and Justice P.V. Balakrishnan.
Uttarakhand High Court (1): Justice Subhash Upadhyay.
Gauhati High Court (1): Justice Kaushik Goswami.
What Happens Next
Additional judges of High Courts are appointed for a fixed term, after which they may be made permanent on the Collegium's recommendation. The Collegium's recommendations now go to the Centre, and the appointments will take effect once the government notifies them.
