INS Aridhaman Boosts India’s Nuclear Submarine Power

The INS Aridhaman is described as "bigger, quieter, and deadlier" than its predecessor, the INS Arighat, featuring advanced stealth technology to evade sonar detection.

As an SSBN, this submarine strengthens India’s "nuclear triad"—the ability to launch nuclear weapons from land, air, and sea—providing a critical second strike capability.

The vessel is capable of carrying a larger payload of K-series ballistic missiles, significantly extending India's strategic reach across the Indo-Pacific.

The submarine was built under the Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) project, showcasing India’s growing expertise in complex naval engineering and self-reliance in defense.

The commissioning is seen as a direct response to regional maritime challenges, ensuring a credible underwater deterrent in the Indian Ocean Region.
