The Uttarakhand government has abolished the Madrasa Board and replaced it with the "Uttarakhand State Minority Education Authority," a single body that will now govern all minority educational institutions, including those run by Sikh, Christian, Jain, Buddhist, and Parsi communities.
Starting from the July 2026 academic session, all madrasas and minority schools must adopt the National Curriculum Framework (NCF) and align with the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, making subjects like Science and Mathematics mandatory.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated the move aims to eliminate "divisive mindsets" and provide equal opportunities to every child; all minority institutions must now seek affiliation with the Uttarakhand Board of School Education.
Parallel to these reforms, the state is investigating madrasas following allegations from the NCPCR regarding the "trafficking" of children from other states like Bihar to Uttarakhand madrasas, leading to the closure of several illegal facilities.
