The Uttarakhand government introduced 11 bills in the state assembly, including the Uttarakhand Devbhoomi Parivar Bill, which proposes a statewide family database with unique IDs to streamline welfare delivery and governance. Another bill, Jan Vishwas (Amendment), aims to decriminalise minor offences and reduce prison overcrowding by removing jail terms and increasing fines.
The government also introduced the Prevention of Public Gambling Bill, 2026, to replace the colonial-era Public Gambling Act of 1867 with stricter provisions. The Minority Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2026 seeks to strengthen the commission’s role in protecting minority rights. Other bills tabled include amendments related to GST, prisons and correctional services, reservation laws, private universities, language institutions, and the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
